It’s the Hurricane capital of the U.S. for a reason (or, What a great way to spend Labor Day weekend)

For the third time in as many weeks, Florida is getting hit by a pretty nasty hurricane. The first one, Bonnie, missed my parents and sister’s houses completely (making landfall in the panhandle). Charley came in from the Gulf, and though my parents didn’t have much to worry about my sister was without power for a few days. Now here comes another big one, and though I know that my family is going to be ok, I still worry a little bit… Then again, after living through Andrew my family and I have a different view on nature’s fury than most people.
Update (Sunday, 1pm): Looks like parents are doing ok; my dad just called from his cell phone to say that so far the neighbor’s barn isn’t doing so good, the tv antenna blew off the roof of the house, and they haven’t had power for about two hours. But everyone’s safe inside. I’ll find out more after the storm is over, later tonight.
Update (Monday, 9am): I lied when I though the storm would be over by now. Like the reports said, it’s moving about as fast as you can walk from the Bahamas to Orlando. I just refreshed the radar on my computer, and it looks like there’s still plenty of storm hitting Ocala. I just tried calling my parents house, the answering service picked up. I sent my sister a text message (as there’s no sense in running their cell phones out of juice when they can’t recharge them), now it’s time to wait for a reply…
Update (Monday, 3pm): I finally got a hold of my sister, she and my mom are doing fine. My mom’s actually flying to Puerto Rico tomorrow, which looks like is going to avoid yet another hurricane! It sure is a busy season out there in the Atlantic Ocean. But anyways, everyone’s ok. Looks like I can stop worrying for a few days.

Want me to send you a “hurricane T?” It says something like “I got blown by Charley, Frances made me wet, and Ivan ripped me a new one.”
