Green flames, green flames! And then all hell broke lose!
Thanks to a solar flare hitting the Earth last night, the ensuing geomagnetic storm sparked a massive showing of the aurora borealis, a.k.a. Northern Lights. Only on extremely rare occasions can they be seen back in Florida, so this was actually my first time seeing them!

(Photo courtesy of a fellow Milwaukee-county resident, as I no longer have a digital camera; more pictures available here). It was a beautiful light show, and from what I’ve read it lasted well into the morning twilight. But of course, that wasn’t the end of the night. Just my luck, not two minutes after crawling into bed the fire alarm went off for the entire building!!! What a great way to get out and meet the neighbors! We all learned that in case of an emergency, the alarm will get us up and out but we still have to call 911 on our own. Bastards. The West Allis Fire Department must have known it was a false alarm, cause it took them at least 10 minutes to get to us. Man, this crazy week needs to stop, I need a break!
