You are not a beautiful and unique snowflake

The madness at work continues. I know I had previously come to the realization that I was a phone monkey, but yesterday I had a true epiphany: I don’t need to take the shit I do any more. It happened at a fairly random time, but I remember clearly how I just sat there and knew that things couldn’t continue the way they have. There’s two new positions opening up at work, and I’ve given myself an ultimatum: if I don’t get either position, I’m getting a new job. Corporate America is not where I want to be, nor where I ever want to be again.

I signed up for my first class today, which I’ll be taking with Sara :) I can’t wait to sign up for one or two more (which will have to wait until I have an idea of what my work schedule will be like for the next few months). I really want to go back to school and make something of myself, and I’m willing to go all the way. 2005 is the year of taking chances, making decisions and saying damn the consequences. I’m gonna make a few sacrifices, but in the end I know it’ll be worth it. So to all my bar buddies I say: I’ll miss you while I’m a poor student, but when I’m done and come back I’ll buy you all a drink.

I know corp. America, been there for 8 years. It’s not very fun, they say the pay is better and benefits higher in that zip code. I’d rather be a poor sob with a decent place than some rich guy with a mansion. corp (four letter word) America is not where morals like to live, and there’s nothing wrong with the ol line from 1995’s Empire Records “DAMN THE MAN!” (man i miss my music store i ran). Anyhow.. there’s not much you can do to upgrade there unless you wait forever or feel like being a bigger butt kissing monkey..

Nah, screw that. I’m not gonna kiss that much ass just to get a little ahead someplace that I don’t even like. But we’ll see what the next few weeks have in store…

Exactly… that’s what they want, and they get rid of the ones who don’t. I should try to add up all the coaches who got canned this year. It’s better to be secure in a crappy monkey position than to be a coach in a higher paying insecure position there.

Now that’s just sad, but it’s true.. I still would like to be an entrepreneur.

The countdown continues… my interview for my new position is on the 20th; keep your fingers crossed!

I signed up for my second class too: Exploring the Urban Environment. Should be exciting!
