In Japan, Life imitates Art

The country that brought the world anime, robotic dogs, plasma televisions and sushi is beginning to look like the futuristic utopia portrayed in the movies. Case in point: here’s a screenshot of an insanely large building from the anime movie Appleseed:

Note the building is covered entirely on one side in solar panels. This makes sense when you have a building so large that it’s better off generating its own power rather than tapping the regional power grid. Now check out the Solar Ark in Japan:

Science-fact has got a long way to go before catching up to science-fiction, but this is a nice start.
