Thoughts on Jury Duty
Most people try to get out of jury duty, but when I got a summons from the City of Milwaukee I decided to actually go. Not only would I be getting paid to not actually be at work, but I figured it would make for an interesting social experience. And honestly, I don’t regret going. It was pretty neat to learn how the judicial process works here in Wisconsin, but the actual trial (and the even longer verdict deliberation) wasn’t that great. Most of the evidence and testimony was boring and case-specific, though I enjoyed the random “objection!” from the lawyers. I was really hoping voir dire would be like that skit from Chappelles Show or that during the trial someone would bust out with the Chewbacca Defense, but both of those things were asking too much. Overall I don’t regret going, but I’m thankful I won’t get called for at least another four years.
