Sunday Brunch, Vegan Style

Living in Southern California, the trend seems to be towards healthy eating and living. In place of a Burger King or Panera, every stret corner has either a Starbucks or a vegetarian-friendly restaurant. (I’m ignoring the overwhelming number of Mexican taco shops and sushi restaurants as I’m told those are required when living 30 miles from Mexico and 10 miles from the Pacific Ocean.) John’s quest to visit only local, non-chain restaurants took us all to Spread this morning.

I probably would have never gone there if it weren’t for my vegetarian roommates, and I hate to say it but I probably won’t be going back any soon due to the prices. They are pretty reasonable considering that the owners shop for their ingredients daily from local farmer’s markets and use only the highest-quality stuff they can get. The place has a very posh feel to it and relies on European-style cuisine; it’s also a little weird eating rose petals and other kinds of flowers in your food. But I’ve gotta say that the four courses we had there were probably some of the healthiest plates of food I’ve ever eaten in my life!
