The World’s Oldest Person is Puerto Rican!
On the eve of my 25th birthday, my friends and family have pointed out that I’m hitting the quarter-century mark. A hundred years ago I’d be hitting my mid-life stride, but people are living a lot longer nowadays. With any luck I’ll live even longer than Emilian Mercado del Toro, the world’s oldest living person. At 115 years old, he was born in a time when Puerto Rico was still a Spanish colony and remembers the 1898 invasion of the island during the Spanish-American War.
