Puerto Rico Driving Rules
A few things I learned about driving while I was on vacation in Puerto Rico:
- Under no circumstances should you leave a safe distance between you and the car in front of you, or the space will be filled in by somebody else putting you in an even more dangerous situation.
- Crossing two or more lanes in a single lane-change is considered “going with the flow.”
- Never pass on the left when you can pass on the right (even if it’s only a paved shoulder). This particularly applies while it’s raining.
- Being in the left-most turn lane does not obligate you to making a turn; changing your mind half-way through the intersection and continuing straight forward is both allowed and encouraged in the San Juan metro area.
