Keep Our Beaches Free: <a href=""http://www.noonpropd.org/">Vote No on Prop D. Of course, there are more important reasons vote than that. If you live in San Diego County you can check your voter registration status online. And if you’re not sure how much time you have left to register you can check with Google Maps (doesn’t matter where you live, just enter your address).

Just felt my first major earthquake: a 5.6 near Los Angeles (Chino Hills to be exact). I work across the street from an air base and a truck yard so I’m used to the building rumbling when a low flying fighter jet or heavy semi truck goes by but this was a good 10-15 seconds of the building undulating. Weird!!! My coworker in Pasadena said a bunch of stuff fell off the walls/shelves in his office as he bolted out the door; at least he’s OK!

The folks over at FreePB.org have an alcoholic-friendly message for everything this summer:

It is now illegal to consume alcoholic beverages in many coastal parks, the beach or on any land area of Mission Bay. The City of San Diego has defined the boundary line between land and water in Mission Bay Park is the mean high tide line. Based on the following documents it seems clear that it is not illegal to consume alcoholic beverages below the mean high tide line, however, police and lifeguards have said they will ticket anyone touching sand, whether below the mean high tide line or not. So feel free to float in your inner tube, but please be safe.

Here’s hoping the stupid ban gets tossed out next year.

It’s been 14 years since the last time a shark attacked someone in the waters off the San Diego coast. “14 years and 10 million waves later” as one local remarked. But early this morning some poor guy went out for a swim with his buddies and didn’t make it back to shore. And the shark that still swims out there?

Carcharodon carcharias. A Great White.

Yeah…

The water’s still a little too cool to swim in but I think I may stick to the shallow beaches of Coronado for the rest of the year.
